Priscilla Renea - Hung up

Candles in a room...that's the phrase of 2010. What does it mean? Well when you have a bunch of talented artists, there tends to be some jealousy and envy between them. However I feel that one candle shining brightly in a room does not dim the other candles in the room. We can all be talented and shine together. On that note, I bring to you Priscilla Renea, a young new artist who gained rose to stardom by posting videos of herself singing on YouTube. You can listen to her songs by visiting her YouTube channel here Priscilla Renea: YouTube One of my fav songs is called "Hung Up" and I wanted to share that with you today:

I loved the simplicity and realness/vulnerability of this song so much I decided to do my own rendition!

If Not Now When..

I had written a glorious poem about 5 years ago commemorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. but in typical b.S'mOne fashion, I lost it when my laptop and I got thrown out my Trailblazer so...I do have this wonderful song called I.N.N.W. that I deem very fitting for this wonderful occasion...enjoy!!!

We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams...

It's Real Talk Sunday

Artists, be careful who you look to for validation. Truth be told the only person who can validate your craft is yourself. If your work speaks from the heart and to others then you've done your job. Not that your job is finished. At that point you have to then become very critical of yourself and your work.I will never be the artist I want to be because when I am, the journey's over, and the journey is the fun part. This is a process, learn to love what you do and then you will do what you love. Don't worry about how many followers you have on Twitter. Worry about the quality of your writing, your energy level when you perform, the tone of your voice. Once you have mastered these things, the fans will follow.

The One

So, I entered this contest that Ido Music was hosting along with V103 and Crown Royal. There were five tracks and you had to pick one of them and write a song to the beat. I picked a Paper Boy Fabe beat and wrote this song called "The One" along with Ro of the Undergrads. Check it out...

A glimpse into my newly renovated portable studio

So I didn't have a mic stand or a pop filter and it's a recession goin on so...I got my MacGuyver on! I hung the mic from the ceiling (WWF style) and made a pop filter using a Dremel, a cylindrical cd container, an old stocking cap. Oh and of course my handy dandy glue gun! Don't laugh, that ish worked!

Punasity

I will be performing (both spoken word and song) in this show that runs from January to March. Click the image about for tickets.

PUNASITY is an intimate (semi-nude) production of urban radio talk show Love and Relationships. Performed in an erotic format of spoken word, and an urban cabaret of tantalizing, sexually charged stories, told by sensual, sexy women. Their tales provide insight into the sex lives of the everyday woman. A look at life, love, emotion and loss as spoken through the universal language of sex.

PUNASITY showcases the power of women to tell uninhibited stories of arousal, in an intimate night of closeness that will stimulate you and trigger sensuous, steamy and seductive emotions within you as an aphrodisiac of sight and sound.

People don't read no mo all they do is click...

I started this blog predominantly because I love to write and haven't lately. I also realized that aside from the occassional blurb on Bossip or some other social networking site, I hardly ever read either. So...I'm changing that. I am gonna force myself to read every day and I promise to post to this blog every day. Remember the Book Club in elementary school when you'd get a personal pan pizza for every book you read and a ticket to 6 flags for every 10 books you read? Yeah, that was like the highlight of my summer. I wanna get back to the place where reading was fun again.

felt a lil nerdy that day...

My Unbirthday

I wrote this hook this morning. It was about a simple moment I flashed back to when I woke up to find my boyfriend sitting next to me in bed while I slept, smiling. He wasn't there when I fell asleep and I wasn't expecting to see him that day. For some reason, I didn't think about it and how special it was until just now (3 years later)and I realized that I'd missed out on a lot of those moments in our relationship because I was stuck on the insignificant things that bothered me about him. I couldn't write love songs until I learned to love, I couldn't love until I first learned to see. I missed entire forests for small saplings, hopefully this song will be a reminder not to do that the next time around.

The Deep End

I cannot allow my world to be defined by the constraints of your skin
Though when you touch me
It’s as if I turn
From the outside
In
What was pure
Now is tainted
And there’s no one to blame but me
Yet for some reason I keep wanting to dive
Into you
Swim amongst the fishes that once
Drank the water from your vitamin deprived sea
There’s no lifeguard
Though if there were it wouldn’t matter
He’d be busy saving the ones that wanted saving
