A Dream Deferred??

Living the Dream...
If you would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be sitting in an office crunching numbers and filing papers, I probably wouldn't have believed you.  According to the life plan I made for myself when I was 12, I'm a little off track.  I can't say that I'm necessarily living the dream, but that depends on perspective.  I'm sure we've all complained about needing new shoes, all the while ignoring the man on the corner in the wheelchair with no feet.  Or maybe we've wished we were making more money or had a nicer home, never even stopping to consider the 1.5 million + people without homes in Haiti.

On today, the anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti, I can't help but be grateful for all that I've been blessed with.  I am living the dream, it's not necessarily the one I dreamt of, but seen through the eyes of countless people in less fortunate situations, it would appear I have arrived. Which makes me wonder, have I?

A dream and the work to attain it in the end is just a journey.  Perhaps the journey is not about reaching the destination but about realizing that the point of arrival is within rather than without.  Success is relative, just like the term rich or beautiful.  It all depends on how you define it.  I've reached a point in my life where I know that every decision I make from here on out will be contributing to a higher goal and that my friend is the real definition of progress.

On Sunday, January 16th, I will be performing alongside Journey Brave and Imago Dei for the Live The Dream showcase at Cloud IX celebrating Dr. King's legacy.  It's $7 before 9pm, $10 after. Doors open at 7. Cloud IX's located at 177 Peters St. just south of the capitol.  After being snowed/iced in all week, you know you're gonna be dying to get out the house and hear some good music, so see you there!
